S P E A K I N G M Y T R U T H
I have always been wired to create but it is only in the aftermath of surviving a highly aggressive cancer as well as getting out of a heart-breaking co-dependent relationship that I dove deeper into my creative practice and found my calling.
May River Montessori in Bluffton, SC, is my home away from home where teaching art full-time to 200 students has been both my passion and mission for several years. With a solid background in intensive case management, teaching, and school counseling, I focus on instilling a mindset where students feel safe and free to soar in self-expression and creative discovery.
I continue to school myself on every artistic technique possible so I can be a highly resourceful and informed guide for my students. I don't know where I would be without YouTube and Instagram so THANK YOU to all the brilliant and generous artists out there who offer online tutorials! To experience children's genuine bliss when they delight in the artistic process is a blessing to behold. To have found a higher purpose in a school with phenomenally dedicated educators in a geographical location that provides such soul sanctuary is a silver lining I never imagined.
Knitting, fabric painting, photography, and fine beaded jewelry have always been passions of mine. These days, when I have time, I have become fascinated with forging mixed media portraits in layers over several days with watercolors and pastels. I am a multi-disciplinary artist.
I am a founding member of the National Association of Women Artists, SC chapter. I display art on the Colleton River Art Wall and a small collection of my jewels can be enjoyed at Maye River Gallery in Bluffton.
My breast cancer diagnosis came at 36. I am BRCA1+. I have been donating to Play for P.I.N.K. fundraisers around the country for many years and I encourage all women with an early history of cancer to inquire about genetic testing. It can help inform treatment decisions, prevent unnecessary surgeries, and ultimately save lives.
